It's Approaching!

After having done a bit of research on the biggest distractions to writing, I will be trying to frequent the downtown cafe Helios as much as possible. This is a great environment for writing. There are plenty of seats, interesting people to use as the characters of the novel, and a steady supply of coffee, beer, wine and vegetarian delights. Wrapped up in a local cafe that I feel good about supporting and doing my part to get us out of the recession, I plan on making this my partial residence this month. So feel free to come by the cafe during the day, as I'm trying to treat this novel writing like a part-time job.

Also, please don't hesitate to spread the word about the blog. I'll make a promise now, one that I may end up regretting by the end of the month. For every person who “follows” the blog, above five, I will write an additional 100 words a day. So get your friends to follow the blog and watch me scramble to increase the word count. So, as I have to write 1,667 words a day, with ten people following the blog, my daily total would increase to 2,167 words a day.

P.S. I also have a pretty busted up keyboard for my laptop. So if anyone knows someone who has a USB keyboard that they're trying to give away I would be happy to buy it from them.

So it Begins

Starting July 1st I will write an average of 1,667 words a day, for a total of 50,000 words. A total that will hopefully amount to what some people call a novel. I will be posting my day's work here, with the hope that having people I need to be accountable to keeping me on track. Granted, here and there I may not post anything, simply being human. However, I hope some days I will blow my goal of 1,667 out of the water to allow me those days of reprieve. I will also refrain from editing any of these works during the 30 days. The sole goal is to get to 50,000 in 30 days. There are bound to be typos, dangling modifiers, and all kinds of grammatical horror stories to ensue in the days to come. Fear not, I will correct these with time. You get the joy of seeing just what mistakes I'll make along the way.

So stay tuned for my first post on July 1st. I promise, I won't start writing until then. I'm moving in the meantime, so I won't have time to do so anyway. After each day's post feel free to comment on what you see. Comment if you like the direction the story is going, and what you'd like to see happen next. As long as the input is reasonable I'll be sure to take it into account. This way YOU can impact a story as it's being written! It'll be sure to be a great success or a great failure, but join in and we'll see what happens.
